Whether the sun is shining or the rain is falling, ;it always seems to be a good time to get our your ATV and take it for a spin. After all, that's ;part of the freedom of owning an ATV. However, the enjoyment you get from your ATV comes at a price - maintenance. And while there may not be a large amount of maintenance to undertake, what is required is crucial.

Basic ATV/Quad Bike Maintenance Tips

Along with providing quality AMSOIL products for all types of motorists to benefit from a synthetic oil change in Blackfoot, TenEyck Distributing knows a lot about engine maintenance. For this post, TenEyck Distributing has an easy to follow guide to general ATV/Quad bike maintenance.

It All Starts With the Manual

If this is a new ride, or just new to you, read the manual. To know how to maintain any vehicle, the best place to start is by ;learning about its individual parts. More than this, the manual is where you will find any particular requirements for breaking in a new engine.

Tire Pressure

How well you can power out of a mud pond can depend heavily on the pressure in each of your tires. ;Before each ride, spend some time to adjust the tire pressure in anticipation of the terrain you will be taking it through. If possible, take a compressor with you ;when you are doing long journeys between ;road and mud.

The Right Fluids

Your ATV/Quad Bike is just like ;any ;vehicle; it needs fluids to ;perform at its best. But more so, it needs the right fluids. ;Just because an oil or a fluid looks similar to another product, they are rarely interchangeable and can cause ;serious and unnecessary damage to your engine.
  • Transmission Fluid
  • Coolant
  • Brake Fluid
  • Engine oil
Of course, if your owner's manual lists any additional fluids which your vehicle uses, always include them each time you perform general maintenance. If any of these levels are low, top them up before your next ride. If your engine oil has become unstable or is no longer protecting your engine, consider a ;synthetic oil change in place of a simple top up. To make sure you ;use the correct and the best fluids in your ATV or Quadbike, speak with ;TenEyck Distributing at ;(208) 589-4660 and ask which products are best suited to your needs. If you have an idea on which products ;you would like, check out ;additional product information at ;the ;online store.

Air Filter

Every combustion engine needs air to function. But only a combustion engine that receives ;a ;consistent amount of clean air can function ;at its best. Considering the type of atmosphere your ATV or Quadbike is likely to see, the air filter is going to fill up much quicker than you regular everyday vehicle. It's a good idea to give it a check ;after every ride. If it's looking clogged, ;clean it out. If it's seen better days - time for a replacement.

Spark Plug

While the job it does may seem small, without it, you aren't going anywhere. Save yourself from an engine that won't start by checking the condition of your spark plug regularly. If you carry a small case of spare parts to your rides, include a spare spark plug.

Tighten the Bolts

While it may sound like a simple one, ;giving your bike a once-over every month or so to tighten any bolts which may have come loose from friction is a smart idea. Start with your lug nuts, pivot bolt, and axle nut and then look through your engine for any others which you can see and access. Not only does it help to keep your ride together and keep your adventure going, but it can increase the safety of each ride.

Grips

If your grips are worn - throw them out and replace them. Not only ;can loose or worn grips interfere with your ability to ride, but it can also ;increase the risk of injury to your wrists and hands. A handy idea is to include a small bottle of grip glue in ;the small pack or spares and tools you bring with you.
